Welcome to this edition of the RiskBuster newsletter!
 A Note from Dan
Wow, it’s beginning to feel like Christmas here – snow, cold, lots of beautiful light displays. I hope this finds you eagerly preparing to enjoy a safe and relaxing festive season with your loved ones. This year, my family and friends are very focussed on one particular loved one, my sister Diane.
Two years ago Diane was diagnosed with ALS. Nothing could have prepared her or any of us for the devastation that has followed. From her fully independent life style she found herself very quickly reliant on costly mechanical devices and the efforts of friends and family to survive. The ALS has very quickly taken over Diane’s life to the extent that she now depends on friends and care workers around the clock to assist her with even the most basic functions.
By October 2009, Diane was faced with moving into a long-term care facility. Due to the devastation ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) imposes on its victims at this stage of the illness, Diane wishes to stay at home and battle the illness in familiar surroundings. In November 2009, we established Diane’s Ray of Hope Trust Fund and began organizing a Benefit Dance and Silent Auction to raise funds to help make Diane’s wish come true.
Diane’s Ray of Hope Benefit Dance & Silent Auction is a fundraising event organized for the purpose of maintaining my sister’s dignity and quality of life while she grapples with this debilitating illness.
We ask that you consider participating in one or more of the following ways:
- Contribute a Silent Auction item
- Attend the Benefit Dinner and Dance
- Purchase a block of tickets and bring a few friends out on February 27th
- Make a financial contribution to the Diane’s Ray of Hope Trust Fund
- Forward this letter to anyone in your network you think might like to participate
